“Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God?  Be not deceived:  neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind, Nor thieves nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God.  And such were some of you, but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus and by the Spirit of our God.

Now that the Supreme Court has struck down DOMA, proving once again that the will of the people in government has become meaningless, as well as the rules of law, the moorings of tradition, religion and centuries of common sense, there will be an increasing number of Americans abandoning the Source of morality and goodness.  All of this flies in the face of the facts of social science as well.  Recent studies have debunked the 10% fallacy and the myth of the gay gene.  Facts are stubborn things, and have demonstrated that domestic violence is the third largest health problem facing the gay and lesbian community today, and trails only behind AIDS and substance abuse… in terms of sheer numbers and lethality.  Regarding his colleagues’ support for gay adoption/custody, psychologist Joe Nicolosi observes: “One of the beautiful things about a democracy is that social scientists can ruin a generation, and then come back 20 years later with our objective measures to validate what common sense should have told us.”  So, what’s wrong with gay marriage?  EVERYTHING! 

There is a certain sound of inevitability in the air.  We are headed for marriage a la mode, have it your way.  Same-sex marriage?  Male-female marriage?  Same as hamburger versus fried chicken – if you’re listening attentively to the culture.  Take your pick.  Such  advice provides no cover at all for the push to crush the old marriage norms and set up new ones, lacking sexual boundaries.  You can see what goes on when we turn the honorable estate of matrimony into one more have-it-your-way custom.  The sight more than discourages.  It lacerates.  So, when does NAMBLA get their float in the parade, attempting to lower the age of consent  to 8 years old?  Remember, they are the ones that coined the slogan “after 8 it’s too late”.  Next in line might be the polygamists and what about those with a special fondness for their pet dog. Once the fence is down, it’s only a question of making the argument “but we really love each other, so what does it matter?” In the spirit of political survival, some conservative politicians are running for cover.  Even Exodus International’s president Alan Chambers recently apologized to the homosexual community, saying that he no longer believed that “repairative therapy changes sexual orientation”.  Consider also the loss of religious liberty north of the border, as hate crime laws have been used repeatedly against Christian activists in Canada who support the right to life and traditional marriage.  The United States now finds itself running a close second to Canada in a race to obliterate the principles behind the first amendment. 

As Bible Believing Christians where do we look for hope in a culture war that looks to be all but lost?  Where else? The scriptures give us a simple, basic, and yet profound answer.  Consider our opening text where Paul says, “And such were some of you, but ye are washed… but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus”. Society may lie to homosexuals about the sinful nature of their lifestyle,  just as it has redefined the sin of drunkenness and alcoholism as a disease, but God’s Holy Spirit will always bear witness to the Biblical truths of sin and fallen human nature.  WE CAN TURN THE TIDE ONE SOUL AT A TIME.  The Bible tells us “He which converteth the sinner from the error of his way shall save a soul from death, and shall hide a multitude of sins.” James 5:20.  As Christians we have three basic choices: First, we can be chocolate soldiers and  run and hide, going along with the culture, as so many already have.  Second, we can stay on our side of the wall and throw rocks without any serious thought of trying to win some of these people and their sympathizers to Christ.  The third option is to obey the Biblical mandate to “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature”.  Matthew 28:19

Finally, it’s obvious that First Century Christians took the Great Commission seriously and won numbers of people enslaved in all manner of sin and vice, including sexual perversion. It also seems fairly obvious that a win on this battlefield of the culture wars will be the natural byproduct of doing what God has commanded us to do from the beginning:  be faithful to proclaim the message of the Gospel to all sinners, not just those that we think are worthy of our time and effort.  What was your pet sin before you were born-again and you became a new creature in Christ?  Aren’t you glad someone thought you were worth it?
